My Story

When I was a kid, I wanted to be an author. I don’t think I enjoyed writing as much as the idea of living in a cabin on the edge of a wintery pine forest with a fireplace, a typewriter, and a German shepherd named Fritz.

That didn’t happen. I didn’t even get the German shepherd.

Instead, I built a family, and I got this guy. To support that family, I sold my soul to Microsoft and got a job in information technology. I carved out a niche doing work that was too boring for a normal human to endure.

My beagle Red

Any doubts I had about my humanity disappeared a few years ago when I realized I couldn’t endure the work any longer. I was a normal human, after all.

I went to graduate school, studied creative writing, professional writing, publishing, and editing at the highest level with a faculty composed only of successful authors. Red helped sometimes by not snoring, not snoring quietly, or going somewhere else to snore while I was working.

I published books, edited an anthology of short fiction, placed short essays in literary journals, pitched my manuscript to agents and publishers, and honed my craft.

Then I started teaching people how to publish their own books and short stories through a college’s extension program.

Right from the start, I loved helping people bring their stories to the world as much as I loved writing my own.

Now I’d like to help you.
